What dies, and what can you really lose?
While we usually think of a death as the death of something physical, this is really an illusion plus a confusion. If we recognized that physical things are illusions, we would have no concern whatsoever that they seem to die.
"The death of an illusion means nothing."
In truth, the idea of death is actually the idea of the loss of something REAL, not something illusory. The main problem is we are confused about WHAT is real, so become caught up in the "loss of an illusion" due to not recognizing it. We then think that a physical thing dying is a "real death", like some portion of reality has disappeared, which is horrifying.
In truth, ALL LOSS is the belief that something of God is lost. Death itself is the idea that some part of IMMORTALITY has been lost. Some kind of lack or need, a diminishing of light, an emptiness or absence of God, a lack of identity, a reduction in self, a sickening or worsening, or the end of love.
Loss then isn't really about things dying in the dream. It's about the notion that something in REALITY has died. Some aspect of God or self or brother has died. After all, what is there that REALLY exists but God and his Kingdom of creations? ONLY that could ever be conceived of as losable. Thinking that physical things dying is "real loss" is a secondary mistake.
The dream of separation from God is a dream of death, and is a dream of loss. The loss of God, the loss of love, the loss of home, the loss of family, the loss of self, the loss of relationship, the loss of beloved brothers, the loss of HEAVEN. It's also the loss of reality, truth, identity, power, will, sanity and many other aspects of God.
So when we then experience loss, we might think it's because of the loss of a body, or a person that we thought was a body, or the loss of a cherished car, or the loss of a future, a home, or something you identified with.
But there are TWO things happening there. There is the fundamental idea of the loss of some part of reality, AND a confusion about what reality IS. It's only because we think that bodies and physicality are reality that we think their loss should incite grief and despair. It still holds that we have loss whenever we think some aspect of reality is gone, but we have become confused about WHAT reality is and exactly WHAT we believe is gone. Reality has become confused with form.
We aren't then really having loss as a result of a physical thing going away. We're having a confusion about what is real, and that's producing a MISPLACED sense of loss that seems to be associated with form. The loss of a body, as if a person was a body, for example. As if bodies are part of reality and God. As if bodies are love.
By associating properties of God with illusory things, and given that those illusory things are CONSTANTLY CHANGING, which means constantly dying (time is death), we are thrown into a constant state of loss. Every time something changes, we feel the pang of grief and sadness. Even if it's the end of your favourite TV show. Because with each change we think part of God and reality and love are dead.
The thing we then have to sort out is what are we really believing is lost, versus what we thought the loss was about. The thing we really grieve over is not the loss of a body or a physical person, it's the loss of the NON-PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES that we had mistakenly associated with them. It's all ultimately about the belief that LOVE IS DEAD, and therefore you LACK LOVE, and therefore are in despair because love is not in you.
The undoing of this belief then involves sorting out the fact that the death of a body does not mean the death of love, because they are NOT associated. And that means you have to re-associate love with something NOT physical. By identifying that God is love, and you are love, and the other person is love, existing in a plane of reality beyond spacetime, as IMMORTAL BEINGS, you can then detach the love from its mis-association with form. You thought you needed the form to get the love, but you don't.
This then tells you that in truth, given that God's reality is always permanent and does not change, the things of God HAVE NOT been lost. The things of God CANNOT DIE. And therefore in truth, there has NOT been a death of anything real. Love is NOT dead. This means you have not lost love, and you have not lost that which you love. And that means you HAVE love and love is in you, as you, and YOU ARE WHOLE and therefore a part of yourself has not died. Because really you grieve for your own loss.
Ultimately you do not really love forms or bodies or physical things. You love LOVE ITSELF. Love looks to itself and loves itself and welcomes itself and extends itself. God loves God. You in God love you as love, created by love, with love, as love, to give love. YOU ARE LOVE. Permanently so. And that means that you DO NOT LACK IT.
The fact that you do not lack love or any other property of God means that you have not LOST anything, the love is being given to you now, you have always had it, you will always have it, and you live IN it. And you must experience it to recognize this truth.
You are permanently home in God so you cannot have lost a home. You are permanently God's love so you cannot have lost love. And everything you love is permanent in heaven, forever, so you cannot have experienced its loss at all. Your belief that there has been a loss is a MISTAKE. It is not correct.
By re-identifying with love and associating love with what is ACTUALLY real, and is ACTUALLY LOVE, you can then remember that there has been no loss, there has been no death, nothing is missing, there is no lack anywhere. Sickness and death are impossible and DO NOT EXIST ANYWHERE AT ALL. Remembering the truth of love then sets you free from the idea of loss, because you recognize that you CANNOT LOSE ANYTHING in truth. God guarantees it.
This does require shifting your idea of what love is away from something narrow and confined and conditional and exceptional and special, which is what it becomes when the body becomes its target, toward something unconditional and expansive and inclusive and permanent. Or in other words, what love ACTUALLY IS in truth.
This also entails a required step of being willing to not only identify with love but to let yourself BE loved, to recognize you ARE loved, that God loves you, that you have always been loved and always will be. And to feel this in you. And therefore if you HAVE EVERYTHING, then you LACK NOTHING. And without lack there is no need, without need there is no clinging or yearning or compulsion to hold on tight or to resist loss or to have to let go of anything.
"YOU are the work of God, and His Work is wholly loveable and wholly loving. This is how a man MUST think of himself in his heart, because this is what he IS."
The presence of love in your awareness is the healing miracle that sets you free from grief and loss forever. You basically just need to get more God into your awareness, because that's REALLY what you are thinking has been lost or is lacking, and its presence will completely eradicate all foundation for any loss every being possible at all. The "loss of God" is the ONLY PROBLEM, and therefore the only solution is REUNION.
God's presence is death's absence. In truth, there is only life and there is no death at all. There is only love and there is no fear at all. There is only reality and no illusions at all. Only heaven and no world here at all. Only Christ and no ego at all. Only spirit and no bodies at all. Recognizing that only God and his Kingdom exist is the atonement. Only the truth is true and nothing else is true.
"And God Himself shall wipe away all tears."
"On one side stand all illusions. All truth stands on the other. Let us try today to realize that only the truth is true."
"Life has no opposite, for it is God. Life and death seem to be opposites because you have decided death ends life. Forgive the world, and you will understand that everything which God created cannot have an end, and nothing He did not create is real."
"There are not different kinds of life, for life is like the truth. It does not have degrees. It is the one condition in which all that God created share. Like all His Thoughts, it has no opposite. There is no death because what God created shares His Life. There is no death because an opposite to God does not exist. There is no death because the Father and the Son are One."
