The healing of sickness and death
If you believe in sickness, you are not healing it. Sickness cannot be healed by a mind that believes sickness is real. You cannot help, when you are in the same boat as the one who seems sick. To believe their sickness is to join with them IN sickness and be sick along with them.
"Do not allow your brother to be sick, for if he is, have YOU abandoned him to his own dream, by SHARING it with him. He has not seen the cause of sickness where it is, and YOU have overlooked the gap between you, where the sickness has been bred. Thus are you JOINED in sickness, to preserve the little gap unhealed, where sickness is kept carefully protected, cherished, and upheld by firm belief, lest God should come to bridge the little gap that leads to Him."
Not allowing a brother to be sick does not mean that you see him as sick and now you will undo it. It means do not BELIEVE that your brother is sick and do not allow him to believe it either. Only a belief in LIFE can possibly be helpful in healing what appe
ars to be death. It is only possible to give what someone is lacking, if you yourself have more than they do. You have to be ABOVE them in terms of health and wholeness, so that you can bestow the LIFE that you have and supply their lack. This means you must believe in sickness and death LESS Than they do.
"Miracles are a form of healing. They supply a lack, and are performed by those who have more for those who have less."
Jesus actually takes this to the extreme. His teaching is that we have to assert ONLY life, that there is holiness everywhere, and sickness is nowhere.
"There is no place where holiness is not, and nowhere sin and sickness can abide. This is the thought that cures."
So we need to have a mindset that completely disregards sickness and does not believe in it at all. Such a mind believes in health and life. Such a mind brings health and life to those who seem to lack health and life, resurrecting them.
Resurrection, which includes raising the dead, means the assertion of life. You can only assert purely life if you are NOT asserting that death exists. You cannot overcome sickness and death by believing they are real at all. You overcome them by overcoming the BELIEF in them.
"The resurrection is the denial of death, being the assertion of life."
The important thing to realize here is that you cannot first make death real and THEN assert life to try to dispel it. You cannot go to war with death. You cannot fight against it, being horrified by it, believing in its existence, giving it power, and then attempt to undo it.
Our general egoic instinct is to first believe that someone is truly sick, to witness the physical manifestations that prove the sickness is there, to believe our eyes, and to completely buy into the horrible situation which has arisen. THEN, having totally bought into the lie, we develop a feeling of sympathy - false empathy - in which we wish the person could be well again. And if the sickness is severe, our "drive" to have them be healed can become strong.
But if our attempts to heal them are rooted in the belief that "there is something really wrong with them", it will not work. That belief is anchoring the sickness and giving it power. It is literally a desire to have the sickness be there, remain, and increase. Your mind is feeding it with this belief. While you simultaneously try to have it go away with your war against it, you are serving two goals, cancelling your power, are split minded, have a divided will, and cannot effect a total healing. You are an unhealed healer.
The unhealed healer can only offer a partial healing because there is still too much belief that sickness exists. To believe in sickness is literally to side with sickness. It is like saying you support it. Even if part of you wishes the person be well and does not want them to suffer, the truth is that another part of you is amplifying and compounding the sickness by believing in it at all. Then your efforts to heal become partially attacks, curses disguised as cures.
Jesus is teaching that we must adopt a position of believing ONLY in life. Only in wholeness, health, happiness and true helpfulness. This requires us to NOT believe in sickness or death. It seems difficult to accept this when you have already bought into an appearance of sickness, taking it to be true. In the midst of reactions and nightmares and helplessness, it seems almost impossible to not believe it's happening.
it is not enough to believe that there is sometimes sickness in the world and sometimes not. That we want to get into the state where the sickness seems to not be there, but still keep the potential for sickness. It is not enough to shuffle the furniture around to make an illusion of healing, in which the true cause is not given a permanent remedy. We can't just want this instance of sickness to go away, and stay in a realm where we believe sickness is possible. With the possibility that it may still happen again. We have to get OUT of the realm of sickness and death entirely and not believe them anywhere, ever, at all.
The reason that Jesus can heal is because he does NOT believe in sickness. This doesn't mean that he "ignores the sick" and doesn't help them, or that he doesn't heal them. He heals them by not believing they are sick. He affirms what is really true of them and focuses on amplifying their wholeness. He looks to the Holy Spirit in them, the truth in them, and dwells upon it, rejecting and denying any signs of health's opposite.
"The task of the miracle-worker thus becomes to DENY THE DENIAL OF TRUTH. The sick must heal THEMSELVES, for the truth is IN them. But, having OBSCURED it, the light in ANOTHER mind must shine into theirs, because that light IS theirs."
"The miracle-worker begins by PERCEIVING light, and translates HIS perception into sureness by continually extending it, and ACCEPTING ITS ACKNOWLEDGMENT. Its EFFECTS assure him IT IS THERE."
"When you heal, that is exactly what you ARE learning (doing). You are recognizing the changeless mind in your brother by perceiving (knowing) that he could NOT have changed his mind. That is how you perceive the Holy Spirit in him. It is ONLY the Holy Spirit in him that never changes His mind. He himself must think he CAN, or he would not perceive himself as sick."
It is therefore the proper denial of sickness and death which brings about its undoing.
"THE MIRACLE DOES NOTHING. All it does is to UNdo. And thus it cancels out the interference to what HAS BEEN done. It does not add, but merely takes away."
The reason he says that the miracle "doesn't do anything", is because the miracle is a way of staying in the light and extending the light. It overlooks the sickness (forgiveness) and asserts resurrection. Instead of saying "you are sick and there's something wrong with you", it says "you are alive and whole and there is nothing wrong with you." Thus the miracle asserts life, and focuses only on life, and therefore "un-does" the seeming lack of life that we call sickness and death. Nor do you need to analyze, diagnose and asses the sickness, you need only SUPPLY THE CURE.
The trick to this then, is that you can only heal by asserting the idea that "you do not need healing." In a sense it's true that they DO need healing, which is why you are offering a miracle. But the way the miracle works, you have to assert the final state that you would like the person to be in - NOT address the state they are in currently. Light does not attack darkness, it shines it away and REPLACES it.
So to heal we assert "you are whole and healed and there is nothing wrong with you, you do not need healing because there is no sickness, and death does not exist." This is a healing thought because it DISPELS sickness and death and doesn't reinforce their existence in any way.
"Miracles make time and tide wait for all men. They can heal the sick and raise the dead because man himself made both death and taxes, and can abolish both."
So here he is saying you can abolish sickness and death. Doing so produces healing and is a miracle. To DO that, you cannot be fueling sickness and death, you have to be turning away from them. Not BELIEVING in them. You have to withdraw all power from them, and give all power to God.
So when we're in a position of seeing someone sick and we buy into it and then we react to it and want to heal them, that IS NOT how you heal them. Believing they ARE sick is literally no different than saying "you are guilty". Sickness is simply another form of guilt, or guilt's shadow projected onto the body. To believe someone "is sick" is the same as saying they are guilty. Thus the ONLY way to heal them, is to express "you are innocent", ie "you are NOT sick and you can NEVER die."
Acknowledging their innocence is the same as forgiveness, which asserts that THERE IS NO SIN, and therefore all sins are forgiven and undone and gone because there is only innocence. It is a recognition that innocence and wholeness are all that really exist. That there is no sickness, and there is no death. Only a mind that is believing and asserting "there is no sickness" can HEAL sickness. Sickness is dispelled and abolished by such a mind, not by directly addressing or attacking the sickness but by seeing no guilt on which it could be based. This completely undermines and uproots it and cancels the need for it.
Any belief in sickness, which is a little death, is a state in which YOU are sick. And because YOU are sick, you give reality TO what you see as proof of sickness in others, projecting sickness onto them and keeping them imprisoned. To believe "people get sick" is self deception and scapegoating. To believe "they could die" is an attack on their immortality. The son of God is free BECAUSE there is no death. ONLY life exists, only life is real, and only immortality is true. Miracles GIVE life to the dead.
"Very simply, the resurrection is the overcoming or surmounting of death."
"ALL miracles mean Life, and God is the giver of Life."
"I raised the dead by KNOWING that life is an eternal attribute of everything that the living God Created."
Jesus is literally saying there that he focused on the fact that the person HAS LIFE, and IS LIFE, and that the life in them IS ETERNAL, and therefore can NEVER be opposed, and as such it is IMPOSSIBLE that they be sick or dead. This attitude radiated a power of healing which supported the "sick person" and supplied a lack of life, resurrecting them to health and lining them up with a vision of their wholeness. Jesus saw the face of Christ in them, and reminded them of who they really were. Immortal beings that can never die.
"Life has no opposite, for it is God. Life and death seem to be opposites because you have decided death ends life. Forgive the world (death), and you will understand that everything which God created cannot have an end, and nothing He did not create is real."
"Perceive in sickness but another call for love, and offer your brother what he believes he cannot offer HIMSELF. Whatever the sickness, there is but one remedy. You will be made whole as you MAKE whole, for to perceive in sickness the appeal for health, is to recognize in hatred the call for love. And to give a brother what he REALLY wants, is to offer it unto yourself. For your Father wills you to know your brother AS yourself. Answer HIS call for love, and YOURS is answered. Healing is the love of Christ for His Father, and for HIMSELF."
